Industrial Coatings & Dry Ice Cleaning for Pharmaceutical & Cleanroom Facilities

BlasTek provides seamless coating systems and residue-free dry ice cleaning for pharmaceutical and cleanroom facilities. Our coatings create smooth, cleanable, low-particulate surfaces suited to controlled environments, while dry ice (CO₂) blasting cleans equipment and surfaces without water, grit, or chemical residue — supporting cGMP housekeeping and validation requirements. All work is executed to SSPC/NACE/AMPP surface-prep standards and coordinated around classified-space and shutdown protocols. Call (616) 243-7550.

Seamless, Low-Contamination Coatings & Cleaning for Regulated Environments

Industrial Coatings & Dry Ice Cleaning for Pharmaceutical & Cleanroom Facilities

Pharmaceutical manufacturing and cleanroom environments demand surfaces and cleaning methods that minimize particulate generation, resist microbial growth, and withstand aggressive sanitization. Coating systems must be seamless and non-shedding, ideally low-VOC to limit disruption in occupied or classified spaces, and applied with documentation that supports validation. Cleaning methods that leave secondary residue or introduce moisture are frequently unacceptable, which is where dry, residue-free CO₂ cleaning has a distinct advantage.

BlasTek brings the same specification discipline to these facilities that we apply to immersion and heavy-industrial work: correct substrate preparation, controlled application within recoat windows, and film-thickness verification. For cleaning, dry ice blasting removes contaminants from equipment, tooling, and structural surfaces without abrasive damage or standing water, so assets return to a validated state faster. We coordinate closely with facility and quality teams on access, containment, and scheduling for classified areas.

Frequently Asked Questions — Pharmaceutical & Cleanroom

Is dry ice blasting suitable for cleanroom environments?
Dry ice blasting cleans with sublimating CO₂ pellets and leaves no water, grit, or chemical residue, which supports the low-contamination, residue-free housekeeping required in pharmaceutical and cleanroom settings. Scope, containment, and validation impact are always coordinated with the facility’s quality team.
What kind of coatings do you apply in controlled environments?
We apply seamless, non-shedding, cleanable coating systems that resist repeated sanitization, with low-VOC options available to reduce disruption in occupied or classified spaces.
Can you support validation and documentation requirements?
Yes. We prepare surfaces to specification and document film thickness and application parameters, and we coordinate with facility and quality teams so the work aligns with their validation and change-control processes.
How do you protect classified areas during work?
We plan access, containment, and scheduling around classified-space protocols — including working within shutdown windows and isolating work areas — to maintain environmental control in adjacent spaces.

Over the last few years, we have been utilizing BlasTek LLC for various fabrication projects ranging from semi loads of large-bore carbon steel piping to complex equipment and piping skids. They not only meet the demanding turnaround of our projects but have also expressed great quality and workmanship. Among other things, BlasTek has expressed a willingness to adapt to the specific needs and skillsets of some of our projects.

Advantages of Dry Ice

Advantages of Dry Ice

When it comes to dry ice blasting, there are several advantages associated with a technology that safely removes contaminants without causing harm to the underlying substrate. For example:

Non-Abrasive

It’s not so much the impact of the dry ice that cleans a surface, but rather, the kinetic energy released from the heat transfer upon impact. The impacted surface is literally frozen by the dry ice pellets which, in turn, causes the weakened contaminants to lose their adhesiveness and break free from the substrate during dry ice blasting.

No Residual Media

Since dry ice goes directly from a solid to a gas upon impact, there is no secondary cleanup with dry ice blasting beyond the contaminants being removed. Normally the coatings or contaminants can be swept or vacuumed from the floor beneath the treated object. Whereas chemicals and solvents create environmental concerns, and water carries with it the risk of bacteria growth, dry ice blasting produces zero secondary waste.

No Disassembly

Dry ice blasting is such a delicate process that equipment need not be disassembled during cleaning. Unlike media blasting and water blasting, there is no waste material produced by CO2 blasting. That means equipment can be cleaned in place, which should reduce plant downtime. In fact, if proper safety procedures are followed, most equipment can be cleaned ‘online’ to increase the amount of heat transfer during cleaning and maximize end results.

Environmentally Friendly

Dry ice blasting is an EPA, USDA, and FDA approved cleaning process, making it the perfect solution for most industrial and commercial surface decontamination projects.
