Specification-Driven Surface Prep, Coatings & Painting in West Michigan

Industrial Blasting, Coating & Painting in Grand Rapids, MIGrand Rapids is West Michigan’s industrial anchor, with office-furniture and metal fabrication, a busy food-and-beverage and brewing scene, life-science and medical-device suppliers along the Medical Mile, and a strong commercial construction market. Each of these puts different demands on surface prep and coating chemistry. BlasTek serves them from two nearby facilities, our in-city Grand Rapids shop off US-131, and our Shelbyville headquarters about 30 minutes south, so crews and parts move without long-distance mobilization.

Industrial Blasting

Surface preparation is where coating performance is won or lost, and BlasTek treats it that way in Grand Rapids. Our crews strip rust, mill scale, and failed coatings, then cut the exact anchor profile your coating system requires. We match the media to the substrate, heavy structural steel one day, delicate fabricated parts the next, and gentler methods like dry ice blasting and soda blasting are on hand for sensitive equipment. Cleanliness and profile are verified before anything is coated, in-shop or on-site across the metro.

Industrial Coating

A protective coating is only as good as the surface beneath it and the system chosen for the service. BlasTek applies immersion-grade tank linings, containment systems, and high-performance industrial coatings engineered for Grand Rapids’ process, storage, and production assets. Our in-house coatings inspectors confirm dry film thickness and perform holiday testing, so the finished barrier is continuous. We coat in our controlled shop or on-site, depending on the asset and the schedule.

Industrial Painting

Industrial painting protects assets and keeps them looking their best, and BlasTek delivers on both. We handle large structural steel packages, tanks, vessels, and equipment, applying industrial paint systems to specification with continuous film-thickness monitoring. For parts that can travel, our shop painting line and Grand Rapids powder coating facility offer throughput and quality control field conditions can’t match. On-site wet-spray painting keeps fixed assets across the area protected without a trip to the shop.

Advantages of Dry Ice

Advantages of Dry Ice

When it comes to dry ice blasting, there are several advantages associated with a technology that safely removes contaminants without causing harm to the underlying substrate. For example:

Non-Abrasive

It’s not so much the impact of the dry ice that cleans a surface, but rather, the kinetic energy released from the heat transfer upon impact. The impacted surface is literally frozen by the dry ice pellets which, in turn, causes the weakened contaminants to lose their adhesiveness and break free from the substrate during dry ice blasting.

No Residual Media

Since dry ice goes directly from a solid to a gas upon impact, there is no secondary cleanup with dry ice blasting beyond the contaminants being removed. Normally the coatings or contaminants can be swept or vacuumed from the floor beneath the treated object. Whereas chemicals and solvents create environmental concerns, and water carries with it the risk of bacteria growth, dry ice blasting produces zero secondary waste.

No Disassembly

Dry ice blasting is such a delicate process that equipment need not be disassembled during cleaning. Unlike media blasting and water blasting, there is no waste material produced by CO2 blasting. That means equipment can be cleaned in place, which should reduce plant downtime. In fact, if proper safety procedures are followed, most equipment can be cleaned ‘online’ to increase the amount of heat transfer during cleaning and maximize end results.

Environmentally Friendly

Dry ice blasting is an EPA, USDA, and FDA approved cleaning process, making it the perfect solution for most industrial and commercial surface decontamination projects.
